Open Access Risograph Printing

What is Open Access?

Open Access sessions at Hot Pink Press allow you access to our studio equipment to print your own work and learn more about Risograph printing in the process. To use the studio you must first complete an induction or a workshop with us.

These sessions are partially supported, rather than taught sessions, as we expect you to use the equipment yourself. However, we are always on hand to help if needed.

The sessions are aimed at those who have existing knowledge of Riso printing. You don’t have to have used a Riso printer before, but do need an understanding of how it works and basic understanding of file set up.

The studio is usually open between 10am-5pm Monday-Friday, but we are happy to accommodate sessions outside of these hours when possible.

How do I start printing at Hot Pink Press?

After you have completed a group induction or workshop, you can book in with us via email.

The studio can be booked hourly, between 1-7 hours per day. You will have access to all the facilities in the studio during your session. You will also be asked to keep track of your printing, as consumables for the Risograph printer are charged individually. If your project is ongoing, we are happy to store your work until your next session.

Our studio is equipped for printing, trimming and binding your Risograph projects. We are happy to store any ongoing work in our studio between sessions. For safety reasons, we will operate the guillotine for you and can trim your work to any desired size.

FAQs

  • These sessions are partially supported, but not taught. This means we expect you to operate the equipment yourself. However, we are always on hand to answer questions, provide refreshers and help with printing errors. We understand that this is learning environment, so please do ask if you need help. If you’d like us to do the printing for you, we offer a print service, which can be found here.

  • We ask that you have an understanding of the Riso printing process before booking an induction. You don’t need to have used a Riso printer before, but you do need an understanding of basic file set up. The induction familiarises you with the studio and operating the Riso printer, rather than teaching you about the process. If you are new to Riso printing and would like to have a go, a workshop may be more suitable for you.

  • Our Open Access Sessions allow you to use the Risograph printer yourself. With our Print Service, we do the printing for you.

  • We offer a file set up service for £15p/h. In this we will sit down with you and walk you through how to prepare your artwork for printing. This service is charged by the hour.
